Mmm, tricky! I enjoy graphic design/cooking so maybe I’d try to get super good at those and become an artist/chef!

      Hi Misba

Would look at people orientated jobs as like to work in teams so Management or Social work could be an alternative.

      Retail is a possibility too!

One of the ways to look at careers is review your favourite subjects at school, see those which you do well in and then look on the web or talk to to your careers adviser at school/college/academy!

I would run a cafe somewhere in Scotland. I’d like to spend the time making really good hot chocolate, lovely cakes, and nice lunches. I’d like it also to have a shop or gallery attached to show off beautiful things that people could buy and take home with them. Can you tell I’ve thought about this? I’d always be a scientist at heart though, but I’d hopefully live somewhere where I could appreciate wildlife and the natural world far more.

Great question! Usually I get asked what I would do if I wasn’t a chemist, and I say I’d be an astronomer but that’s still science!
I think if I couldn’t be in science I would love to own and run a microbrewery. I love brewing beer in my spare time, although maybe that’s a bit of a cheat as brewing is a lot like chemistry!

Right now I’d say being a gardener! I’ve been working from home a lot during ‘lockdown’ so I’ve been spending a lot of time in my garden.
However, even as a gardener, I would want to be involved in developing new pesticides so that we can grow enough food, (to feed all the people in the world who still go to bed hungry), BUT make sure we don’t harm beneficial insects like bees at the same time. Only scientists can do this.
So – I’d still want to be a scientist some of the time!

I guess dream job would have been to play for Liverpool FC (never going to happen…)
If I had to switch career now I think I would be a travel writer, who reviews restaurants as well. I love seeing new places, and also love food so think that would be a perfect career! Maybe a chef as well? There are so many things I would like to do!
What do you thin you want to do when you finish school?

Architect. I like the blend of creativity and problem solving. Thinking about it, it uses the same traits as being scientist, but maybe a bit more of creativity 🙂

Another great question, I dont know if I would have done this as an alternative, but I think my dream job would actually be as a fishing guide, looking after stretches of river, taking clients out to fly fish and helping them learn/improve. The big plus for me would be that I would be able to go fishing most days of the year rather than trying to squeeze in a few days here and there

I have always enjoyed volunteer work and being outside, so maybe a gardener or I would like to work for a charity.

Ha – too much choice! I think I’d become a builder or plumber of some sort because I really enjoy doing things with my hands. I would love to be a professional sports woman too. I also like the idea of having a small cycle out door café where I can bake loads of goodies. A park ranger or outdoor job would be fun too!

I’d like to be a Radio 1 presenter as I love listening to music (especially if I can pick it) and talking to people – I’ve found through my studies and career that I really enjoy sharing experiences and knowledge with people. Also you’d get to meet and interview a lot of interesting people and I value doing my best to understand others and learn from them. Another perk would be you’d get to go to a lot of events and do some crazy challenges for charity etc. which I think would be super fun!

I always quite liked the idea of being a paramedic as it sounds quite exciting and you have to think on your feet, and you’re also helping people.

I involve science in everything I do, experimenting with baking, gardening and new art techniques. So, if I couldn’t be a professional scientist I’d probably want to be a baker but even then I’d still be doing science in some form!

I would be a teacher – a secondary school chemistry/science teacher (if that’s allowed!) so that I could have classes I could see each day/week and build a relationship with, and also because everywhere needs teachers so you can live anywhere, or an outdoor activities leader/teacher like a mountain leader, because I love the outdoors and want to share it with everyone (the downside is getting very cold in winter, I would need a lot of jackets for that job!)

I have always wanted to be an airforce pilot, but I thought I’d give science a chance first! If that hadn’t worked, I would have pursued a career in the airforce!
