Hi Olivia! It would probably shatter – diamond is very hard, but only moderately tough. This means that whilst diamonds are very difficult to scratch (hardness), they will chip/break if you apply enough impact (toughness).
Most likely nothing would happen to the diamond, if the diamond is big enough though it might pop the tyre. The ground below and the tyre above would cushion the diamond enough to avoid breakage or damage to the diamond itself
This is an excellent question! I think the diamond wold emerge unscathed (looking exactly the same as it did before the truck ran over it).
You have discovered in this question that scientists often disagree with each other which is a good discovery to make. If enough scientists disagree, we would do an experiment to find out the true answer and drive a real truck over a real diamond.
Back to the question: Diamonds will split into smaller pieces, if they are hit hard by an on object like a hammer. But the truck tire is soft and the pressure spread out. This is why I think nothing would happen to the diamond.
Tyres aren’t very hard so I imagine they would cushion the diamond enough so that it doesn’t shatter from the pressure. However if you stuck the diamond between two really hard things and applied enough force then I imagine it would shatter!
They are hard as described below but not infaliable so it could pop the trucks tyre but if it was lying on a concrete based surface it could possibly fail if the weight applied was big enough kgs/square inch!
