• Question: Speciation occurring in isolated systems, why does it not occur as frequently as you would assume in pond systems

      The best explanation I’ve got is that sometimes small lakes and ponds have fluctuating water levels that create pockets of water and temporary ecosystems. With no migration, allotropic speciation could occur.

      This could also be affected by pollutants entering into water courses.

      Also you could have interactions with plastics or material entering from farmland.
