Orignally from Wolverhampton in the West Midlands, I did my undergraduate degree at the University of Leicester and now live in Glasgow. I’m an avid knitter and have recently learnt how to do stuffed toys – my first one was an elephant. My favourite foods are cheese and chocolate (not together)! Favourite TV show right now – Great British Sewing Bee, I love Joe Lycett. Avid comedy fan, have seen countless comedians, highlights – Russell Howard, Kevin Bridges and Romesh Ranganathan! Favourite animal – puffin!
My graduation photo – one of the proudest days of my life!

I work with looking at the mechanisms of reactions. This is learning about how they actually work. For example, when Ford design a new car, to make sure it’s powerful but efficient, they need to perfectly understand how a car engine works. This is the same reactions, to make efficient reactions, I need to understand how they work.

My Typical Day:
Wake up at about 7.30 am, get to work for 8.45 am. I spend most of my day in the lab, doing reactions and taking measurements on them.

I work in a fumehood – shown in the photo. This sucks all the nasty smells and fumes away from the chemicals I use so I don’t breathe anything in that’s harmful. I do reactions and take samples at different times so I can see what’s happening at different times in the reactions.
I leave just after 5 pm most days. Eat (normally involving cheese), watch TV, each chocolate and sleep. Then repeat (Monday-Friday).
