My PhD is looking at ways to recycle batteries out of old electric vehicles. These are lithium ion batteries and currently there is no way to recycle them in the UK (we instead send them abroad to be recycled). Furthermore, the methods used to recycle these batteries are not very good (the batteries are basically burned!). Therefore I am looking into alternative methods that can use chemistry to help recycle the battery more efficiently.

My Typical Day:
I spend my days making new materials which I then try and use in a battery. I also look at results.
