Work History:
2013-2015: I worked as a pot washer in a restaurant, this was not fun but at least I had some money to spend
2016: I worked for a chemical company analysing data at university. This was quite boring and I spent a lot of time reading through large spreadsheets. It was a great oppertunity to chill out and listen to music though.
Summers of 2017 and 2018: I worked with my lecturer at university doing some chemical engineering research. This was able to be published in a scientific journal, one of my favourite achievements!

My name is Joe and I live in Derby with my housemates and friends. I enjoy spending my time listening to music, playing board and video games with friends, reading books and especially baking bread. I love almost every food and am always looking for new things to cook and (more importantly eat). When not quarantined I love to go out for hikes in and around the peak district and take photographs. I also enjoy keeping fit via swimming and climbing. My pronouns are he/him.

I am a chemical/process engineer. This is a very different role to chemists. Whilst chemists work on developing reactions I focus on how to make those reactions much bigger. This large scale is important for industry as it is more cost effective and important for companies.
When working on large reactions the safety of everyone is very important. My work often involves looking into safety measures and seeing how I can make things safer for people. This is very important and my most recent role looked at this in depth. I investigated the most dangerous possible scenarios at a chemical plant and fond where they could be made more safe.
I am currently doing computer simulations of fluid in pipes. This is very exciting and will help my company a lot in the future as they will be able to use my simulations for very complex situations.
-
My Typical Day:
I wake up early in the morning and have a nice coffee and bowl of frosties for breakfast. I then drive to work and set my computer up. .Throughout the day I work on simulations, chat to my colleagues and solve problems.

7:00 Wake up, shower and have breakfast
8:00 I will have driven into work (whilst listening to music of course) and have gotten in.
9:00 Setting up for the day, talking to colleagues, sorting through emails and setting up simulations
10:00-1200: Running my simulations and working out what has went wrong with them (something always does!) This is actually the most fun part of the role, solving problems is exciting and rewarding!
12:00-12:30: A nice lunch with my friends at work, often I go for a sandwich but sometimes I like to be lazy and buy something.
12:30-16:00: Back to my normal work, often I will have meetings, chats, coffee breaks throughout. I may also be working on a side project for charity, networking and more.
After that I have my evenings free to cook, bake, swim and chill out with my friends.
